| When you're riding uphill - follow these tips |
Stand - when your pedaling uphill get out of your saddle. Standing up will allow you to put more pressure on your pedals (use your weight to your advantage) and will improve your balance at slower speeds. Standing up will also give you a smoother ride on down hills and flat sections. |
Lean - use your weight! What I mean is: if your back wheel is spinning shift your weight back. If your front wheel is lifting off the ground, shift your weight forwards. |
Pull - use your handlebars! Your handlebars can be used to add torque to your pedaling stroke, and allow for better balance. When going uphill pull up on your handlebars to give you a little boost. |
If a hill looks too steep to attempt it's okay to get off of your bike and walk it up that hill. The same goes for obstacles and when you get tired. If you see a section of the trail that makes you uncomfortable get off your bike and walk it through.
