Dual Suspension
Hard tail advantages: affordability
Dual Suspension advantages: efficiency,
comfort, speed.
- Suspension: Only in front
- Weight: Lighter - no rear suspension.
- Price: $600-$6,000
- Comfort: Uncomfortable. Any jolt is
felt through rear wheel since there is no suspension for that part of
the bike.
- Speed: Some of your forward momentum is lost
when your rear wheel hits an obstacle. When your rear wheel
strikes a rock some of your forward momentum is converted into useless
upward force. This slows the bike down.
- Suspension: Suspension in both
front and back.
- Weight: Heavier because of the added
rear suspension component.
- Price: $1,300-9,000
- Comfort: Dual suspension bikes are
comfortable since most jolts are absorbed by shock absorbers which
absorb shocks for the front and rear wheels.
- Speed: You will go faster because
your forward momentum will not be interrupted by bumps in the trail.
